The Ultimate Budget Gaming Solution!
Hi guys, well I ended up selling my 7900GT, and since my 8800GTX is still in the process of shipping, (Should be here by Thursday for the latest) I ended up sticking a 7600GS I had in the store to hold me over for the next 2 days or so. I must say I am pretty impressed at the performance/overclockability of this card.
The card comes stock at 570/1400, I pushed it to 640/1600 and proceeded to run some benches. Setup for testing was the following.
"ALL AIR"
- Asus P5W64 PRO
- E6600 @ 3.44GHz (9x383) vcore@ 1.285V
- 2x1GB SuperTalent PC6400 @ 956Mhz (4-4-4-10)2.25V
- eVGA 7600GS
- WD 250GB Sata 7,200rpm 16MB
- Windows XP SP2
I decided to start with the old and head up to the new. After all this is a mid-range card and should fare very well in the older benches. So we'll get going with good old AQuamark3.
I must say this is very impressive, especially for a single card. I couldn't even get this much with my previous AMD64 4400+ and 7900GT to show how CPU limited this test is.
Now unto 3Dmark01SE. Again the same situation arises, just to show how CPU limited this test is. Over 40K with a single 7600GS on all air and no mods. These Core2Duo's know how to show off, and it really shows in the older benches such as this one, where there is no GPU bottleneck.
Now moving up a little to 3DMark03, we see another powerful showing by the 7600. Over 16K in 3Dmark03, I am contemplating to put these in SLI and see what happens, after all I do have a day or 2 to play around with these until the big boy gets here.
Now as we move on up to the times to 3Dmark05, we can see where the 12 pipelines and 128bit memory interface have their work cut out for them. Still coming in over 7K is great performance for a card slightly over $100. bucks. I must say this is very good bang for the buck.
All in all I am totally impressed by the performance of this little card, it gets full ratings from me, especially for those looking to get good performance / IQ and on a budget. Secondly the overclockability of the card was not bad considering it does not have a separate 12V connector, but uses all the power it can muster from the PCI-E slot.
I give this card 5 stars, as far as value/performance goes. Those gaming on a budget wouldn't be disappointed at all.
Stay tuned for some gaming benchmarks.
