Today I am reviewing the XQpack AL/420 Aluminium case from Apevia. I bought it from here for £68.15 inc VAT, its not the cheapest case I have ever bought but it makes a nice change from your average midi tower. Here is the spec, as shown on Apevia's website; - Compact, portable and tasteful design
- 3 x side see-through windows
- Front 2 x USB2.0, 2 x Audio, 1 x Firewire
- 1 x front LCD temperature readout
- 1 x 120mm blue UV LED fan at rear
- 5 x drive bays: 2*5.25" + 1*3.5" + 2*3.5"(internal)
- ATX 420W 12V power supply
- Removable motherboard tray for easy installation
- Sturdy aluminium constructed for best cooling
At first glance this case looks amazing, very compact and lightweight with a lot of emphasis on the internal components, as the 3 windows allow you to see into all sections of the case. The case lid is a bit flimsy, but I highly doubt that taking the case lid on and off would cause it to deform, not if exercised with a little common sense. The inbuilt temperature sensors and display are a novelty, however are nice features and found on a lot of cases these days. When I first purchased this case I was a bit dubious whether my existing PSU would fit in it, as the one that comes with it is a custom size; 30mm shorter than the one I wanted to use. Apevia's website says nothing about using any other power supplies with this, instead choosing to promote the 420w one that comes with it. All in all the PSU that came with it isn’t too bad, I’ve not had a chance to test it yet, but it is very sturdy with all the wires sleeved. Fortunately when it came to the crunch, my Coolermaster ALCY-550 did fit, with about an inch to spare. After installing this I noticed that the case was a little deformed, but nothing that caused any issues with the build. Next, the motherboard tray and installation.
