Now because this is an OEM version, nothing came with it. No cables or Power DVD etc. No instructions on how to use this at all. I technically have 2 SATA2 buses on my mother board (details below) so I intended on using my HDD in one, and my new SATA DVDRW in the other. Seemed simple.
Setup
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA965P S3
  • CPU: Conroe E6600
  • GFx: 8800GTS 640Mb
  • RAM: 2Gb Geil PC6400
  • HDD: Maxtor SATA2 250Gb
  • Sound: On Board
  • OS: WinXP Pro SP2

I am using the latest F8 BIOS for my Gigabyte GA965P S3. I have enables the GSATA2 for the DVDRW and my Intel onboard for my SATA2 HDD.

They don’t require an F6 intervention when installing SP2. They basic drivers are built in. So no fuss or worry there. I am not using any IDE devices, or a FDD in my test set up. This is pretty much how I run my computer daily. I have previously tried to eliminate the need for a FDD, and now want to eliminate any Parallel IDE devices.

This is a short drive. Making for an easy install. I hooked up the power and data cables, and took out the rounded IDE cable for the old drive. Even though this is rounded, it was so much more bulky than the slim SATA cable I used.

So, nice and short, no jumpers to worry about, better cooling in your case. Now 3 good reasons to upgrade today.

Next - how it performs.
