Page 2 of 6 The card itself is excellent. What you would expect from Gainward. It is quite heavy, though it demands respect, like a big lump of gold. You know when you are putting this into your machine, it’s going to be a different experience. Being a DX10 card, as we all know, I was expecting something other than just raw speed. Testing on Windows XP Pro, I left Vista alone. I have a copy, but I find it unstable at best. XP has been around for 7 years, and like it or not, it is now a mature operating system, not to be put down.
It’s a very nice card. The plastic is a dark clear type. My only criticism is that a light inside may have made it look a little better. More of a case feature. With one PCIe power connector the minimum PSU spec is around 450w. I will be using an Antec Neo 500w. This is modular with 3 12v rails. The GTS will be on one of its own! Here I have lined it up against the card it replaces. The XFX Nvidia 7800GT 256Mb PCIe. I liked this card. It was fast, looked good, and was a single slot solution. The XFX has some flair compared to the upper class Gainward. Next, Test setup and performance. |
