Lian-Li PC-C32 ATX Case Review
Written by mulberrycrush
Oct 21, 2007 at 10:57 AM

General-NewsDespite this being a desktop or HTPC case, the PC-C32 is quite large. This is because it supports a full-size ATX motherboard and standard ATX PSU - no being stuck with a microATX motherboard or weird PSU form factor. The downside to this, is of course that the case isn't as slim as some others out there, and may not blend in with your HT setup.

The dimensions of the case are 426 x 167 x 530mm or about 17" x 6.5" x 21" (WxHxD); for rackmount purposes this corresponds to a 4U size. (1U is about 1.75" thick) The depth in particular isn't well-shown on Lian-Li's site; with a depth of 21", you'll want to make sure that this case can fit where you want to put it!

ET: Quake Wars - NVIDIA Performance
Written by mulberrycrush
Oct 21, 2007 at 10:55 AM

nvidia_logoThe Linux client for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was released yesterday, but can you expect this Linux-native game to run with your existing hardware? In addition to this first person shooter being very multi-core friendly, it does require more graphical horsepower than any current Linux game.

While there is a "low quality" mode for ET: Quake Wars, quite frankly it looks like crap. On the opposite end of the scale, this game does support Soft Particles and other improvements to make this a stunningly beautiful experience. To help you determine what works on the NVIDIA side, we have taken three midrange GeForce graphics cards and tried them out with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

Saitek Cyborg Rumble Pad P3600
Written by mulberrycrush
Oct 21, 2007 at 10:52 AM

General-NewsWith the Cyborg Rumble Pad, Saitek has attempted to make a gamepad that it truly compatible with every FPS game out there by the use of a button on the pad labeled FPS, when pressed it automatically programs the pad with the most common FPS game functions.

The pad is like other Saitek pads essentially, but the 'Cyborg' naming comes in with a part of the controller they call the 'Cyborg Module', the left side of the pad features a section that pops out, it includes the analogue stick and the d-pad, the whole thing can be rotated 180 degrees so the user can decide where the stick should be. The Cyborg Rumble Rumble pad has quite a few other features as well, so read on to learn more about them, this is truly a very cool gamepad...

World in Conflict PC Review
Written by mulberrycrush
Oct 21, 2007 at 10:50 AM

games-smallAs with any decent RTS game, World in Conflict focuses around three major modes of play if you don't count the tutorial. You have the single player campaign, single player skirmish, and a multiplayer mode. However, it is with the actual execution of these modes where this game starts to shape its unconventional and untraditional approach to the RTS genre.

This comes in the form of being very minimalist regarding micro-management - while there are 'control points' on the map you can control, there are no bases and buildings to construct, no technology trees, no units upgrades, and basically very little else to do other than command units in battle. This is an RTS which focuses almost exclusively on the action.

Written by Tornado
Oct 18, 2007 at 02:48 PM

General-News

Security is a very big deal. If you’re just transferring some music files and family pictures, it might not be all that important, but if you’re transporting financial documents and other personal information, it’s important to protect that data however you can.

Manufacturers of USB Flash drives have come up with many different ways to encrypt and otherwise lock your data in such a way that random passers by won’t be able to access those all important 1s and 0s.

Backup-Pal
Written by mulberrycrush
Oct 18, 2007 at 02:45 PM

General-NewsToday for review I've got a cool little product that makes all the other backup systems out there obsolete, it's called the Backup-Pal and it's extremely easy to use, compatible with pretty much every phone out there and essentially future-proof as well, it'll work with any phone you get just by adding a new connector tip.

This also means you can easily transfer your contacts from one phone to the next with no hassles or worries, and with the option of a PC connectivity kit and software you can even edit your contacts as well.

Antec TruePower Quattro 1,000W Power Supply Review
Written by tornado
Oct 16, 2007 at 02:46 PM

General-NewsThe TruePower Quattro is 80 PLUS certified, which means the PSU consumes about 33% less energy than many other power supplies with the same output capacity.  The TruePower Quattro uses four +12V rails to increase system stability and comes with four PCI-E connectors for powering the latest generation of video cards.

Antec has had mixed success in the past with their power supply offerings.  Some of their recent units manufactured by FSP and Seasonic have been very good while some previous units earned a less stellar reputation.  For the TruePower Quattro series, Antec chose Enhance as the OEM.  It will be interesting to see how the new Quattro 1,000W power supply tests out.

Written by mulberrycrush

General-NewsIt was five months ago now when we first got a look at an Intel P35 based motherboard from ASUS, which was the P5K Deluxe (WiFi-AP). Priced at $240 US this motherboard was far from affordable, but then it was never meant to be affordable.

Rather it was meant to be the ultimate Core 2 Duo motherboard and many considered it to be just that. With its extensive list of features, impressive performance and amazing overclocking abilities the P5K Deluxe quickly established itself as a top contender.

intelBeing the inquisitive individuals we are here at bit-tech, we decided to try and provide our awesome readers with an answer to the ageing question about PCI-Express bandwidth.

Actually, it was between one of our many congregations around someone's PC at work, watching the latest amusing Internet video and stuffing our faces with tea and confectionery, that the idea shot out into the open and was promptly skewered to the calender, like the donkey getting its tail back from a six year old.

Our office shenanigans aside, I'm sure you've read the latest rumours about RV670 making their way around our beloved Internet. They suggest that RV670 might be the hottest thing since sliced bread, and you are therefore contemplating your next upgrade.

In July, 2007, XFX released the second card in their Fatal1ty Professional series which was based on the the NVIDIA® 8600GT GPU/VPU, which we had the pleasure of reviewing. These two cards followed XFX's Fatl1ty Mission of: "Providing a performance overclocked product that features an affordable price that will appeal to all players". Each of these cards diverted from the norm in that they both were passively cooled with XFX's renowned "Silent But Deadly" (SBD) cooling solution.

General-NewsAdvanced Micro Devices may not be in position to release its new dual-processor enthusiast-class platform this year, however, it may be thinking about a different product, according to some unofficial information. Apparently, the company may be mulling about a triple-core microprocessor for desktops.

According to a news-story at Hard Tecs 4U web-site, AMD is working on a processor that would have three processing engines. Microsoft got caught doing stealth updates
Written by SUSHRUKH
Sep 16, 2007 at 07:53 PM

General-NewsMicrosoft has been caught updating files on both Windows XP and Windows Vista without displaying the usual notification or permission dialog box – even if the user had previously disabled automatic updates. Microsoft, however, calls it built-in behavior and no cause for alarm.

Scott Dunn of “Windows Secrets”, reports nine files in XP and Vista have been altered by Windows Update in what he calls a stealth move by Microsoft. The updates are upgrades to the Windows Update service itself, and are not harmful to the system. However, the tactics used by Microsoft to perform them are comparable to those used by spyware companies, thus raising some concerns among the privacy minded.
