Pentium E2140/2160 And Athlon X2 BE-2350: Low-Power CPU Benchmarks
Written by SUSHRUKH
Jul 29, 2007 at 09:43 PM

General-NewsAMD and Intel recently introduced three new low cost processors. Intel decided to resurrect its Pentium brand for use on two new low-cost parts; the Intel Pentium E2140 and Pentium 2160.

AMD, on the other hand, released a new Athlon part, the Athlon X2 BE-2350. Although these processors are positioned at somewhat different segments of the market, we believe it is still appropriate for these two processors to be compared against each other because they have a lot in common.

Dissecting The ATI/AMD Linux Driver
Written by SUSHRUKH
Jul 29, 2007 at 09:40 PM

ati_logoIf you have been reading our ATI/AMD Linux display driver reviews for some time, you will know that there are periods where it doesn't look like the fglrx driver is actively being worked on, but in fact changes are being made "under the hood".

We are going through one of these droughts right now where not many new features or bug fixes are being introduced, though a lot of work is going on internally. We have decided to dissect the last 19 months of driver releases from ATI/AMD to expose some interesting facts and what should be coming in the future.

Solaris Express SXCE Build 69
Written by Administrator
Jul 28, 2007 at 08:00 PM

General-NewsWhat does Solaris look like? It's actually a question we've been asked quite a bit since beginning to cover Solaris at Phoronix earlier this year. When using the GNOME desktop, it doesn't look much different from Linux aside from StarOffice and Sun Studio and a few other things being included, but of course it will look even more like Linux once there is the Project Indiana OpenSolaris distribution.

Anyways, with the launch of Solaris Express Community Edition (SXCE) Build 69 yesterday, we've taken some screenshots to show the latest and greatest with Solaris "Nevada" for those of you who have never seen Solaris or haven't tried it out in quite a while.

Memory Buying Guide
Written by Administrator
Jul 28, 2007 at 07:59 PM

General-NewsFrankly, the performance of your memory modules does not really matter unless you are into hardware tweaking and/or overclocking. The performance difference between different memory modules is really insignificant. It is certainly far less important than the quantity of RAM. It's better to have lots of slow RAM than a smaller quantity of faster RAM.

Uniblue Registry Booster 2 Review
Written by SUSHRUKH
Jul 27, 2007 at 10:45 AM

General-NewsAfter months of use, you might notice your computer's speed has been tarnished since the day you bought or built it. One of the most common ways to keep your computer up to speed is to keep the registry clean. The registry is where Windows configuration files among others are stored.

The fewer files that are in your registry, the less time it will take Windows to sort through the registry. Uniblue's Registry Booster 2 will be put to the test to see how a cleaned registry impacts performance. Just how clean will the registry be? How much will performance be altered? Is this registry software safe to use and will I have to worry about it corrupting registry files? Let's dig in to find out.

Octopod tripod from Gizgeek
Written by SUSHRUKH
Jul 27, 2007 at 10:09 AM

General-News If you take any amount of pictures you'll know that a tripod can be a very valuable accessory, but what happened when you need a tripod and there just really isn't a good position to place it? It might be a rocky area. or other place where the tripod just won't be stable.

Today for review I've got a product that I think is very cool, it's called the Octopod and it's from our friends at GizGeek. It's a mini-style tripod which makes it very portable, but what is special about it is the fact that it features bendable legs so you can actually wrap the legs around objects like tree branches, and the tripod can easily sit on uneven surfaces... It's the Gumby of Tripods!"
