Is it worth the money? – Gadgets To Use

Vivo has released the Vivo X50 today in India alongside the X50 Pro and TWS Neo at a starting price of Rs 34,990. At this price, this smartphone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G. The smartphone also features a quad camera setup and comes with a high refresh rate display.

Here is our unboxing and first impressions of the Vivo X50. So, let’s see if this smartphone worth the money.

Vivo X50 First Impressions

Design and Build: Flagship Grade!

The Vivo X50 comes with the build quality and design of a flagship smartphone without a doubt. The smartphone comes with a glass back and metal frame making it super sturdy and it has a punch hole on the front. The rear glass panel is served and has a tint of yellowish color on the top side which can be seen in light falling through different angles.

Now, back to the build quality of the smartphone and I am comparing it to the Galaxy S20 for the benchmark. It comes with a thickness of 7.5 mm which is slimmer than the Galaxy S20 (7.9mm.) And it weighs only 173 grams which are only 10 grams heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S20(163 grams.) In conclusion, Vivo X50 is a true flagship smartphone with great build quality and design.

Display: No Curves?

Vivo has always provided the best possible displays in its smartphones and Vivo X50 is no exception. It comes with a 6.56 inches AMOLED displays with FHD+ resolution with a punch-hole design. The screen to body ratio is also one of the best you can find on any flagship smartphone.

The Vivo X50 display comes with a high refresh rate of 90Hz which can be switched in the settings. The one thing on which Vivo stepped back is that the display is not curved, Vivo X50 Pro has it but not this one. Also, the placement of the punch hole on the display is a bit off from the corner, maybe because it holds a bigger 32MP sensor.

Performance: Why Vivo?

Performance is one thing that even Vivo put at the far end of the smartphone features list on X50’s official page. All because Vivo did a big compromise here which shouldn’t have been done here. The global version of the Vivo X50 has Snapdragon 765G and we got the Snapdragon 730G in India.

The Snapdragon 730G is a big downgrade from the Snapdragon 765G, both the processors are built completely on a different architecture. Also, Snapdragon 765G is a 5G chipset and the 730G is not. Anyways, Vivo paired this processor with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

Camera: Great Comeback

Vivo smartphones were not very competitive with the cameras to other flagship smartphones. But Vivo X50 is a completely different story, it comes with a quad-camera setup which is placed beautifully at the back of the device. It includes a 48MP main camera with a 13MP 2X optical sensor, an 8MP wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP macro sensor.

The Vivo X50 does not have a gimble stabilization just like in the Vivo X50 Pro but it comes with OIS in the main sensor. The camera is capable of recording up to 4K videos at 60 fps. The smartphone comes with a 32 MP front-facing camera which is placed under the display as a punch hole and take good selfies overall.

Software, Battery, and Charging

The Vivo X50 comes with the Funtouch OS running out of the box which is based on the latest Android 10. The smartphone comes with a bit of bloatware installed which you can easily uninstall from the phone. The UI is a bit refined from what Vivo used to provide with the Funtouch OS.

The battery in Vivo X50 is a 4200 mAh one and which is sufficient for a complete day of intense usage. The smartphone comes with a FlashCharge 2.0 which charges the smartphone at 33W highest for fast charging. The charging time is not advertised but you can charge the complete battery in nearly an hour.

So, these were our Vivo X50 first impressions. It is a real flagship smartphone except for the processor that it comes with. The smartphone has all the good things which you need, a good display, great build, and a big battery. I will not recommend this smartphone at this price if you can go a bit further, go for the Vivo X50 Pro. However, this new Vivo X50 will be available via, Flipkart and offline stores starting from July 24.
