Microsoft Willing To Work With Apple To Bring xCloud Onto iOS Devices

Apple had not too long ago expressed their willingness to allow game streaming services on their mobile devices, but there was a caveat in which they also required developers to submit their games to the App Store if it were also available on the game streaming service. Apple claims that this is so that they can review the games to ensure it abides by their terms and conditions.

It is not very realistic as some services might have hundreds of games, and it would be a long and tedious process to submit them all individually, but Microsoft is hoping that they can work something out with Apple. Speaking to The Verge in an interview, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer revealed that they are open and willing to work with Apple to bring its xCloud streaming service onto iOS devices.

According to Spencer, “We’re willing to work with them on safety and other things that people have come up with. We run a platform that takes safety and security very carefully. It is very important to us on Xbox, so that topic is not something that’s foreign to us.” He also noted that in the meantime, they will most likely be heading down the Safari path, where they’ll make Xbox Game Pass Ultimate playable through Safari which is a workaround.

Spencer also notes that Apple is open to the idea of a native iOS app, but until they work something out, Microsoft will be going through Safari. “No, they actually remain open to the user experience we would like people to see. But we have this avenue of a browser that works for us that we will go and build out, which gives us access, frankly, to a lot of devices. If the device is capable of running a capable web browser, we’re going to be able to bring games to it, which is pretty cool.”

In the meantime, we have also seen how Google will be bringing Stadia to iOS devices through Safari, while NVIDIA has also adopted a similar strategy.
